Unlocking the Benefits of the IB Diploma Programme

The aim of all International Baccalaureate (IB) programs is to develop internationally minded people who, recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better, more peaceful world.

Preparation for University and Life Beyond

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better world through intercultural understanding and respect. It is an academically-challenging, two-year pre-university course with final examinations that prepare students for success at university and life beyond.

IB students study six subjects of their choice (Language A1, Language A2, Individuals and Societies, Science, Mathematics, The Arts) at higher level or standard level.  The programme has three core requirements namely: extended essay, theory of knowledge and CAS (Creativity, Action and Service) to develop the intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills of students in order for them to live, learn and work in a rapidly globalizing world.

Assessments of students’ works are done by an international board of examiners, who are rigorously trained and monitored by the International Baccalaureate Organization (I.B.O.).

A Passport to the World

The IB Diploma is considered as a passport to leading national and international universities.  IB Diploma graduates are welcomed by the world’s top universities, as the IB Diploma is a highly regarded entrance qualification.

Granting of Exemptions and Advanced Credits

One of the educational institutions in the Philippines providing exemptions and advanced credits to IB Diploma holders is the College Division of Southville International School and Colleges (SISC). The following policies are being implemented:

•SISC waives its college entrance examination to all holders of an IB Diploma with at least a total score of 18, with not more than one subject with score lower than 3.

•All subjects taken at the higher level with a score of 3 would automatically be credited as units for SISC corresponding courses, without any need for validating exam.

•A student who is planning to take a course/degree in SISC with subjects that have appropriate equivalent in the I.B. Programme must have a score of not lower than 3 in the Higher Level (HL) of the said subject in the I.B. to be considered sophomore status in the college. For example, if a student is planning to take the Business Program, he/she must have taken Business and Management HL in the I.B. with a score of not less than 3. SISC does not award sophomore standing in a specific major if the corresponding subjects taken in the I.B. is in Standard Level (SL).

•Students may credit up to 48 units maximum; additionally, an I.B. Diploma holder may be granted up to second-year status at SISC.

Learning for university and life beyond, exemptions and advanced standing credits in higher level education, and a reputation that is globally acknowledged and respected – these are the benefits that the IB Diploma renders its recipients. These make studying IB a truly excellent educational experience.
