Southville Math Genius off to National finals

Gen Mark Tanno of Southville International School and Colleges’ (SISC) International Baccalaureate Diploma Program hurdled the area stage of the Philippine Mathematical Olympiad (PMO) to advance to the National Finals of the oldest and most prestigious math competitions among public and private high school students in the country.

As one of the twenty qualifiers for the National Finals, Gen Mark will have the chance to be a part of the Philippine Team that will represent the country in the 56th International Math Olympiad (IMO) in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

The Philippine Mathematic Olympiad is a Mathematics competition for High School students all over the Philippines. Each region has one testing site where participants go through  three stages of the competition. Although the competition had a long way to victory, Gen Mark didn’t fail to get a place.

Along with what he said in his valedictory speech back in grade school, “I am not a great man, not yet, but I know I would someday be” he keeps pushing and accomplishing his goals.

This year's finalists were culled from more than three thousand high school students who joined the qualifying stage examination. The top 20 students will have rigorous summer training. PMO will choose the top 6 performers to represent the country.
