Nursing students celebrate World Kidney Day

Let’s take care of our kidneys since the repercussion of kidney failure is a difficult and complex condition to deal with. Chronic renal failure necessitates hemodialysis for the rest of one’s life until a successful kidney transplant is done. That was the message of the forum at Asian Hospital & Medical Center (AHMC) joined by Southville International School and Colleges’ BS Nursing students in celebration of World Kidney Day.

For three years now every March 14, the BSN students have campaigned to help promote kidney health in their community. “It is as simple as drinking adequate amounts of plain, clean, clear water,” said Dr. Silvino Martin Corpuz Jr., AHMC nephrologist. The students agree that this campaign, though small and simple, can impact the awareness of many who do not manage their lifestyle favorably./br>
A growing number who are obese, have diabetes, hypertension, and a family history of the disease, if not checked, are most likely to develop chronic renal failure. At present, there are millions worldwide suffering from renal problems, including Filipinos. BSN students at SISC have taken their role as health promotion and wellness advocates seriously.
