Southville BS IT Students Support Worldbex Success

“Ang bilis! [It’s fast!]” Mr. Mike Yuangco, the coordinator of the Kid Idol Year 3 and Dance Showdown last December 12 and 13 at the World Trade Center, remarked when asked about the tabulation of the judges’ score sheets. It was fast indeed because the tabulation of the score sheet wasn’t done in the old-fashioned way of manual counting. It was, in fact, a first for the group of Mr. Yuangco to have their top ten determined by a computer program.

The computer program, developed by students from the College of Information Technology, is a ranking system designed to accept input from multiple judges and produce a total and a ranking of the contestants based on the inputs. In the contest, several computers were networked so that when the judges are done scoring and have saved their sheets, the scores are passed to a central computer where the tabulation of the score and the rank takes place.

The ranking system was used in the scoring of the Kid Idol Year 3 contest of December 12 and in the dance showdown the day after. Judges included celebrities such as Regine Tolentino, Albie Casiño, Dominic Roque, Nice Sanchez, Anne Garcia, Kokoy Santos, Joj Agpangan, Jai Agpangan, Jei Escalona, Ameetess Dira, Ethel Booba, and Gladys Reyes.

Along with the technical support and computer program, the staff of the MIS and PR departments personally assisted the judges in their input of the scores for the contestants.
