Southville Science Wiz Wins the University of New South Wales, Australia medal

Ervin Joshua Bautista of Grade 5 - Righteousness won the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Medal at the 2017 International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) - Science conducted last May 27, 2017. He got the medal and medal winner’s certificate for being the top scorer in his year level that drew more than 3000 entries. He was one of the 19 students from the Philippines who won the UNSW medal.

Eleven other Southville International School and Colleges (SISC) students received awards in the skills-based assessments with a competition element conducted by Educational Assessment Australia of the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia.

Juan Alfonso Lobien and Robert Jeremiah F. Rivera, together with Bautista, earned the High Distinction Certificate for placing in the top 1 percent of all participants in their levels. Katherine Buno, Stefano De Castro, Hyo Sang Kwak, A Rin Lee, Lee Somin, Marie Gabrielle Mhanna, Miguel Elijah Sybingco, and Deeyon Rouche Elbinias Tolentino, on the other hand, placed in the next 25 percent of all participants in their levels to garner the Credit Certificate. Finally, Sung Min Choi got the Merit Certificate for belonging in the next 35 percent of all participants in his level.

The participants were tested for their skills, knowledge, and understanding of Earth Sciences and Astronomy, Chemistry, Biology and Ecology, and Physics.
