Southville Students Shine in International English Assessment



Eight students from Southville International School and Colleges received awards in the 2017 International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) - English that drew over one million student entries from more than twenty countries.

Raven Breanna Maat of Gr. 6 - Perseverance was awarded the Distinction Certificate for belonging in the top 10 percent of the takers in her level. On the other hand, John Matthew Cabiles also of Gr. 6 -Perseverance, Rueben Maat of Gr. 9 - Compassion, and Julianne Mari Casbadillo of Gr. 10 - Commitment got the Credit Certificate for belonging in the next 35 percent of all participants in their level. Shane Allison Climacosa of Gr. 7 - Resilience and classmates Miguel Dominico Alzona, Mikayla Hailee Ang, and Kurt Ranedielle Santos of Gr. 10 - Commitment placed in the next 45 percent of all participants to earn the Merit Certificate.

Conducted by Educational Assessment Australia of the University of New South Wales in Sydney, the skills-based assessments with a competition element evaluated the participants’ skills and knowledge in text comprehension, writing, syntax and vocabulary.
