Southville Karatedo Team Wins Gold in National Tourney

November 18, 2017 - Southville International School and Colleges Karatedo team composed of Jerry Hernandez, Ingrid Concepcion, Alexandra Justine Jarvis, Gianna O. de Mesa and Danielle Marquez won in various categories of the Budo Matsuri Karatedo Championship – PKL Second National Tournament organized by the Philippine Karate League (PKL).

With 280 participants, the team rose up and brought home 3 Gold, 2 Silver and 3 Bronze Medals. Grade 8 student, Jerry Hernandez won two Golds for SAI Kata and Nunchackku Kata while Grade 10 student Alexandra Justine Jarvis won Gold for BO (Staff) Kata and a Bronze for Girls Kata – Intermediate level. Gianna de Mesa, Grade 2, won 2 Bronze medals Girls Kata (7 years old and below category) and BO (staff) Kata and Ingrid Concepcion, Grade 3, won Silver for BO (staff) Kata. Danielle Marquez of International Baccaluareate class won Silver for SAI Kata.

“More than bringing home the medals, the most meaningful experience for the team is being able to apply self-discipline and responsibility before, during and after the competition. That to me is something coaches would like to inculcate to the students,” said Black belt Sensei Leo de Mesa, Southville’s resident Karatedo Master and the adviser of the club.
