College of Tourism Tops Southville Dean’s List



"It was a mix of emotions. Getting my name called as the overall top 1 for the past semester got me so excited. It was fulfilling and very rewarding because it's one of my greatest achievements in life as a college student and I'm grateful to have experienced it at least once," exclaimed Jasper Jenric Urtal, BS Tourism 3. With his GPA of 3.8, Jasper landed the top spot in the Dean’s list of Southville’s College Division.

When asked about his motivation to excel, Jasper, Vice President of the Tourism Society said, “My parents have always been my inspiration in almost everything that I do especially in achieving my goals because I always want to make them proud. Having this recognition is what I can give back for all their hard work for now.”

This semester, six of BS Tourism students made it to the TOP 10 Dean’s list. Ms. Nancy de Guia, the Chairperson of Tourism is overjoyed knowing that tourism students are academically competent and are able to balance academic requirements and co-curricular responsibilities.

The College of Tourism boasts of its competitive curriculum that prepares students for the global demands of Tourism Industry. “We are committed to molding our students to be graduates who will be the number one choice in hotels, airlines, and other hospitality establishments. It is the goal of the College of Tourism to be able to equip our students with a 5 Star quality service with a heart,” shared Ms. Nancy.

Last semester, some students went to Korea for their international study trip while this semester, some are bound for local destinations like Cebu and Corregidor. Other upcoming activities include Plenary Forum and Workshop on making project making to help the environment with Mr. Vincent Guerrero, Special Asst of the Governor of Guam on Climate Change and Environment, as the keynote speaker. There will also be the Cambridge Climate Lecture Series 2018.

Joining him in the ranks of the honor roll are model students with a GWA of 3.6 and above, namely: Top 2 Jamile Bobis of BS Tourism, 3.781; Top 3 Andrea Alcantara and Veronica Romio of BS Tourism, 3.75; Top 5 Alyssa Peña of BS Education, 3.72; Top 6 Lorraine Almazan of BS IT, 3.719; Top 7 Jodi Sta. Maria of BS Psychology, 3.670; Top 10 Simarjit Kaur Bal and Ashley Calajate of BS Tourism, Alexis Gregorio of BS Accountancy and Cedric Tabulado of BS IT, 3.656.
