Southville Film Buffs Nominated for Gawad CCP

Two film entries of Southville International School and Colleges (SISC) AB Communication students were nominated in the Short Feature category of the 23rd Gawad Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Para sa Alternatibong Pelikula at Video. Monica Diaz’s Gunita and Michael Jianoran’s I See Everything both made it for screening in the most prestigious independent film festival in the Philippines, and the longest running in Asia.

Gunita takes the viewer on a firsthand account of a young lady, lost and uncertain of her situation. As a series of flashbacks unfold, the irony of life springing from choices and second chances is also revealed in the story. An avant-garde filmmaker, Diaz made use of two color tones to further the mood of the film and maintain clarity of treatment.

I See Everything is simple yet universal – a narrative about stereotypes and social hierarchy. Jianoran’s goal is to communicate why books shouldn’t really be judged by their covers, which he translated into people and their appearances. The film was shot mostly within the school’s premises with the participation of Southville students and staff.

Gunita and I See Everything are both scheduled for screening at the Tanghalang Manuel Conde on November 23, 2011, at 1:00 and 9:30 PM respectively. The awarding ceremony will be held on November 25 at the Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino.
