SISC’s Prized Golfer Bares Other Self
Teeing ground, loose impediments, obstructions and ground under repair, words that may sound alien to most of nine year old girls, but not to Abegail Alcera Arevalo, a fourth grader at SISC who has never failed to surprise the world with her golf prowess.
It has always been a dream for Abby to excel in golf.“I started playing at age 3 1/2 … At first, I would just keep on hitting the ball… I could not make it, but then, I practiced a lot,” said Abby.
Abby, proclaimed champion in the San Diego’s Junior Masters Golf Tournament held on July 8-9, 2008, started studying at Southville in Prep.
Besides golf, Abby also enjoys the things she and her classmates do in Computer Club, one of the interest clubs at SISC. She likes the typing program because the school provides the class with interactive typing lessons that make students feel that they are just playing. She loves designing computer websites as well. She watches I Carry and loves playing Dodge Ball and watching Straw relay during Sports Fest and Family Day Activity of ECED held every February.
Abby aspires to become a business person aside from being a golfer. In fact, she and her Bestfriend Bea, also from Southville, are planning to have their own bakery when they grow up. Both of them enjoy the Entrepreneurship Day at Southville where they sell in the Bazaar and make a write up of what they did, make an analysis of their sales and profits, etc.
Among the tournaments that Abby won aside from the San Diego’s Junior Masters Golf Tournament were Riviera Sports Country Club (March 2006) – Champion, Riviera Qualifying for Singapore Round 1 (March 2006) – Champion, Alabang Jungolf (December 2005) – Champion, PARS Golf, St. Lucie, Florida (December 27-29, 2007) (3rd), Doral Publix Tournament, Miami Florida (December 18-20, 2007)(3rd), Tecolote, San Diego (July 10, 2007)(1st), Pepsi Little People Illinois (Champion) and others.
Abby values her teachers because of their compassion and kindness. They support her in her games by giving her make-up quizzes and lessons whenever she had to miss classes because of golf competitions.
Abby’s brother Mark Anthony is also studying at Southville. Her other brothers namely Mac and Juan Miguel used to be SISC students too.
Abby is a living testimony of the success of the SISC Grade School Division’s (LowerSchool) thrust to develop academically competent, disciplined, and well-rounded Grade School students in preparation for life and for the challenges of higher education.
