An Awakening Experience: 2014 Angels Walk For Autism

As we joined the Angels Walk for Autism 2014, I realized that there is a greater need to promote awareness of special education. The event provided the public an understanding of how society should respond to the needs of people with unique needs and qualities not usually found in mainstream society.
The event made it possible for many people to know how important it is to learn that there are indeed persons living with this condition called autism. More important, there is something we can do to help them.
The success of the event showed the growing progress of special education in the country. The huge number of participants who joined the event simply tells us that the number of people supporting special education is growing. And being part of the event, I belong to them. I became an advocate and will continue to be one.
Seeing individuals with autism accompanied by their families made an impact on me. I have become more aware of the reality that autism and/or people with other special needs are around us.
As a future special educator, the event gave me a glimpse of my future, and of how I might be interacting with people with special needs. And there is still much for me to learn.
Joining the walk is of significance to me that in even a small way, I helped promote public awareness on the needs of people with autism.
I am proud to be part of the biggest event that celebrates the uniqueness of this very special group of people.
