"Southville’s Poor Urban Child (POUCH) was a program that made an impact in my life. As a future nurse, caring is part of the values that we must uphold in our lives. Through POUCH, I was able to learn early the importance of caring for other individuals through serving and sharing with the beneficiaries of POUCH what they are not privileged to have." read more>>

DevComm Class Conducts Workshop on Oral Communication

The students of Development Communication (DevComm) under the leadership of Ms. Marilou Gonzales conducted an outreach activity entitled A Workshop on Oral Communication last February 24, 2017 at the Media Center.

The workshop is one of the activities under the Basic Education Enrichment Program (BEEP), the outreach program of the Colleges of Communication and Multimedia Arts. The workshop aimed to help develop communication skills of students coming from SISC’s adopted community. Selected Grade 9 students from CAA National High School learned tips on effective public speaking from the organizers.

The morning session tackled both vocal elements and non-vocal elements of oral communication. Lectures on the following topics were shared with the participants: Cs of communication, proper introduction, vocalics, delivery enhancement, and projection. Aside from the lessons, the workshop also included activities for each student to communicate in front of an audience. These focused on improving articulation and pronunciation as well as enhancing facial expressions and gestures.

The entire afternoon session was allotted for the participants to apply what they learned to a broadcast situation. The participants got to experience how is it like to be Disk Jockeys (DJs) and Video Jockeys (VJs) as they read scripts in the Audio Booth and Broadcast Studio.
