Media Heavyweights Incite the Youth in Southville’s Career Talk



Communication students of Southville International School and Colleges (SISC) recently organized a career seminar entitled “Media Talk: Career Opportunities in the Communication and Multimedia Arts Industry.”  Several guest speakers who have made significant contributions in the media industry graced the event to inspire the young audience with the careers that await them as media practitioners.

 

Ms. Patty Laurel, TV personality, commercial model and host, and Mr. Ed Montilla, radio broadcaster and operations manager of Manila Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) gave inspiring pieces of advice on the challenges one has to go through before making it to the ‘limelight’. 

 

Mr. Art Dumaup, owner of ArtBytes and producer of more than a hundred advertisements, Mr. Patrick Filart, director and owner of Audioclef which manages talents in the music industry, and Ms. Grace Dimaranan, President of the Animation Council of the Philippines and Managing Director of Top Peg Studio, talked about audio-visual and post production, animation, and the arts.  The three of them tackled the importance of developing good interpersonal relations with the clients and thinking ‘out-of-the-box’.

 

On the marketing side, Ms. Rose Nuqui, Vice President and Group Head in Marketing and Exhibits of Festival Supermalls, and Mr. Ricardo Suarez, Senior Marketing Manager, both gave their invaluable insights on integrated marketing communications. They stressed that one’s attention to details is essential because this may make or break an event or a concept. 

 

One common advocacy that the seven speakers spoke of is the concept of ‘giving back to the country’.  The speakers shared that they wanted to excel in their respective fields to make the Philippines known as a country that produces quality media outputs.  They also advised the students to be aware of their interests and capabilities early on so that they don’t waste precious time shifting from one course to the other.

 

The affair, which is a final requirement in the Media Management class of the Communication juniors, was attended by high school students of SISC and nearby schools, as well as the college freshmen from the Department of Communication and Multimedia Arts.
