Hon. Joie Genesse N. Derama, Municipal Mayor of Boljoon, Cebu, continues to make Southville International School and Colleges (SISC) proud as he is recognized among Cebu’s Best Mayors in Local Governance and Service Excellence (2025). Ranking in the Top 10 with an outstanding 92.25% performance rating, Mayor Derama earned high marks across key areas including economic development, public order and safety, health and social services, infrastructure, education, and public satisfaction. This distinction reflects the deep trust and confidence his constituents place in his leadership.
A proud Southville alumnus, Mayor Derama completed both his K–12 education and his Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship at Southville in 2012. His journey from student to public servant is grounded in the values of integrity, responsibility, and service—principles that continue to guide his work in governance. His background in entrepreneurship has given him a solutions-driven mindset, enabling him to translate vision into practical, community-centered action.
Elected unopposed in 2022, Mayor Derama’s leadership has brought tangible improvements to Boljoon, notably in the enhancement of the town’s water supply and waste management systems, contributing to a cleaner, healthier environment for residents. He has also championed initiatives that integrate sustainable tourism, agricultural development, and disaster preparedness, strengthening economic resilience while preserving the municipality’s cultural heritage. Known for his transparency, accountability, and collaborative leadership style, he works closely with local and provincial stakeholders to ensure that public programs are effective and inclusive.
Currently pursuing further studies in Public Administration at Cebu Institute of Technology–University, Mayor Derama remains committed to continuous learning and growth. His recognition as Southville’s Outstanding Alumni in 2024 embodies the Southville core values of Competence, Character, Commitment to Achieve, Collaboration, and Creativity. His story stands as a powerful inspiration to fellow alumni and students—proof that purposeful leadership, rooted in education and service, can create meaningful and lasting change.
