A landmark chapter for internationalization in the Philippines has officially unfolded as the National Capital Region (NCR) formalized its first-ever set of International Relations Community Officers. During the Kick-Off Meeting and 2026 Directional Planning held on February 26 at Life Academy International College, the community established its operational leadership under the guidance of the CHED-NCR Transnational Higher Education (TNHE) Unit. This inaugural gathering was a decisive step in positioning the NCR as a globally engaged and student-centered hub for higher education, outlining a strategic roadmap for 2026 that prioritizes connectivity and regional excellence.
Among the newly appointed leaders is Dr. Nancy De Guia, Dean of the College of Tourism and Director for International Relations and Linkages at Southville Global Education Network (SGEN), who has been named Vice President for External Affairs. Her appointment underscores Southville’s ongoing commitment to global academic standards and the advancement of Sustainable Development Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals. In her new regional capacity, Dr. De Guia is tasked with fostering meaningful institutional connections, promoting cultural exchange, and bridging the gap between local HEIs and international partners to support sustainable innovation in education.
In response to her appointment, Dr. De Guia shared a message of gratitude and vision for the future:
“I am deeply honored to take on this role and represent the Southville community in such a pivotal initiative. This appointment is not just a personal milestone, but a collective opportunity to elevate the Philippine educational landscape on the global stage. By working together with our fellow NCR institutions, we can create a more interconnected environment that directly benefits our students through broader perspectives and international opportunities. My focus will remain on building the kind of sustainable partnerships that turn global goals into local realities.”
Through this leadership role, Dr. De Guia and the rest of the newly formed council are set to put the 2026 Strategic Plans into motion, ensuring that the National Capital Region remains a prime destination for internationalization and academic collaboration.
