Charting New Heights: A BSN Graduate’s Soaring Career in Aviation

Angel Modina, a proud alumna of SISC College of Nursing, BSN Batch 2011, exemplifies how the values and discipline gained from nursing education can transcend professions. Driven by a strong determination to pursue a career as a commercial pilot, she faced the added challenge of breaking through a traditionally male-dominated field.

She credits her nursing training as a solid foundation that continues to serve her well in aviation. “My nursing education shaped me into the kind of person who could thrive as a pilot,” she shares. “It taught me discipline, attention to detail, and calmness under pressure—skills that are just as vital in the cockpit as they are in patient care. Nursing trained me to think critically, make quick yet sound decisions, and communicate clearly with a team. More importantly, it instilled empathy and a deep sense of responsibility, reminding me that every action can impact someone’s safety.

Today, she confidently navigates the skies, guided by the same principles she learned in nursing school. She believes that the precision, composure, and compassion ingrained in her BSN training have made all the difference in her aviation career—proof that the lessons of nursing extend far beyond the hospital walls.
