From Student to Standout Educator: The Rise of Joratio “Tats” Nuyda

From the halls of Southville International School and Colleges (SISC) to the frontlines of education, Joratio “Tats” Nuyda is a true homegrown Monarch. Having journeyed through Southville’s K–12 program, completed his college education, and earned his Teaching Certificate Program (TCP), Tats now teaches with the same fervor he once brought as a student.

“I wouldn’t trust any school to train me but Southville,” Tats shares with conviction. And for good reason—his roots run deep, his growth intentional. What he enjoyed most in TCP were the rich dialogues with fellow educators and the practical exchange of best teaching practices. “Picking their brains and sharing experiences shaped my approach in the classroom,” he says.

Designed for non-education degree holders, Southville’s TCP is fulfilled over two semesters, providing a strong foundation for aspiring educators. More than academic theory, the program emphasizes reflective practice, hands-on learning, and the formation of one’s teaching identity. For Tats, this educational philosophy turned training into transformation.

His dedication was tested early on: after teaching seven straight hours, he sprinted to the college building for a mock Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET). “It was chaotic,” Tats laughs, “but it prepared me for the real thing.” The mock exams and immersion experiences are part of how Southville prepares TCP graduates for the rigors of professional teaching.

Now a part-time IB Economics and Business faculty at SISC, Tats embodies Southville’s commitment to excellence and educator empowerment. The impact, he says, has been profound. “Southville showed me I truly love teaching. I’ll do it as long as I have the energy.”

Among the institution’s 5Cs, Character made the deepest imprint. Through 3RsHI—Respect, Responsibility, Relationship, Humility, Integrity—Tats built trust and empathy in every student interaction. “It’s how I create lasting bonds,” he explains, “and model doing the right thing even when no one is watching.”

His advice to students is simple but powerful: “Respect everyone. Prepare early. Live in the moment.”

From student to standout educator, Joratio Tats Nuyda is proof that with the right guidance, passion becomes purpose. And teaching? Teaching is where knowledge meets heart, shaping lives with every lesson.
