Let’s Talk Music Production for Film: A Special Session with Pepe Manikan

The student-led organization Artists Anonymous, composed of Multimedia students from Southville, is set to host an inspiring event: Let’s Talk Music Production for Film. This special session will feature award-winning Filipino audio professional and educator Mr. Jose Manuel “Pepe” Manikan, giving participants an insider’s view of music and sound in film.

What makes this event even more significant is its collaboration with The Academic Film Society, handled by the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP). The partnership highlights a shared commitment to nurturing creativity, film literacy, and professional development among young artists and aspiring filmmakers, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education, which promotes inclusive, equitable, and lifelong learning opportunities for all.

The session will focus on the often-overlooked power of sound and music in storytelling. Participants can expect to learn about music composition, sound design, and audio production for film—essential tools for creating emotional depth and narrative impact.

Mr. Manikan is a respected figure in the Philippine independent film community, known for his work in film, television, and advertising. His notable accolades include the Best Sound Design award at the 2022 Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival for the feature film Bula sa Langit, as well as recognition from the Young Critics Circle (Philippines) for achievements in sound and aural orchestration.

By bringing together Artists Anonymous, the Academic Film Society, and the FDCP, this event creates a unique platform for students and emerging creatives to learn directly from an industry practitioner who has shaped the soundscape of local cinema.

Let’s Talk Music Production for Film promises to be an engaging and educational experience, celebrating the art of film music while advancing access to quality learning opportunities for the next generation of Filipino storytellers.
