Southville IT college student and faculty invent revolutionary anti-collision driver-assistant algorithm

“Five children die on our roads every day.” This quote came from a facebook post from the official United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) of the Philippines. With road accidents still being prevalent, prioritizing road safety is important.

Southville International School and Colleges headed by their Dean, Dr. Aris Ignacio, alongside its faculty member, Mr. Julian Antonio Laspona and one of their excellent home-grown students, Keane Andre D. Tolentino have found a way to contribute to this cause through their project- Yodasort.

The team presented YODASORT during the research conference hosted by the Consortium of the South in February. Yodasort is a level-advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) that provides real-time warning for collisions and to recognize traffic signs based on dashcam footage. Rigorous testing has been made and its findings have the potential to contribute to the reduction of road accidents and the improvement of traffic management.

While a final model is still in progress, YODASORT have already made a difference in contributing to road safety. Guided by its 5Cs: Character, Competence, Collaboration, Creativity, and Commitment to Achieve; these efforts are proof that Southville continues to deliver excellent, future-focused education.
