Tourism Expo 2026 Brings Innovation and Sustainability Into Focus

The Southville Institute of Tourism (SIT) brought the future of travel and hospitality into sharp focus during Tourism Expo 2026, gathering students, educators, and industry leaders for an inspiring day of dialogue, learning, and forward-thinking conversations about where tourism is headed in a rapidly changing world.

What made the event even more meaningful was that Tourism Expo 2026 was a student-led initiative actively organized and managed by the MICE Class together with the Tourism Society Organization. From planning and coordination to program execution and audience engagement, students took the lead in bringing the expo to life, showcasing not only their creativity and professionalism, but also the leadership and industry skills they are developing as future tourism practitioners.

Two remarkable speakers took center stage, each bringing a distinct and powerful perspective on the future of the industry.

Captain Ernesto I. Yutadco, President of WilhMar Manning Philippines and a proud parent within the Southville community, delivered a compelling talk titled “Smart Ships, Sustainable Journeys: Cruise Tourism toward a Greener Horizon.” His presentation painted a vivid picture of how the cruise shipping industry is evolving, embracing greener technologies, smarter vessels, and more responsible practices to ensure that the seas remain a source of wonder for generations to come. His message was both visionary and urgent: the tourism industry must innovate or risk becoming part of the problem it has long ignored.

The second speaker, Mr. Jude Russel U. Cuntapay, LPT, recipient of the Icons of Change Award 2025 for Excellence in Environmental Education and Transnational Youth Mobilization, brought dynamic energy to his keynote on “Digital Innovation: Redesigning Tourism through Sustainable Practices and Responsible Travel.” His talk challenged students to reimagine tourism not as mere leisure, but as a vehicle for meaningful, responsible, and digitally empowered change.

Together, the two speakers offered students a powerful dual lens: the sea and the screen, tradition and technology, industry experience and youthful advocacy. Students actively participated throughout the expo, asking insightful questions and engaging enthusiastically in discussions about sustainability, innovation, and the future of responsible tourism.

For SIT students dreaming of careers in tourism and hospitality, Tourism Expo 2026 was more than an event, it was a glimpse into the industry they are preparing to transform. More importantly, as organizers of the expo itself, the students were not just audiences to innovation, they became active leaders and collaborators in creating an event that reflected the future of tourism.
