Southville Ballet Students Leap in 2012 Philippine Dance Cup



Southville International School and Colleges’ Ballet Team composed of Alexandra Denyse Oropesa, Tiffany Claire Lau, Princess Stephanie Balido, Lourdes Marian Andujar, Clare Andrea Cecilia Egalla, Dominique Castro and Koichi Shibata, Southville Ballet Dancers bagged honorable mention, Senior A Group Division, Classical, in the recently held 2012 Philippine Dance Cup, the country’s premiere amateur ballet competition held only once every two years, with over 300 participants from schools all over the country.

Competing against 30 ballerinas and danseurs in the solo category, Oropesa, Lau and Balido also ranked 7thin the Junior D, Solo Division.

Ms. Jan Idalyne Manlapig, Southville Ballet Director, said, “This is an achievement. To think that it’s only the first time that the students competed in a solo ballet competition. Next year, watch them perform on in bigger competitions.”

Southville’s Ballet Program started two years ago in partnership with Acts Manila. The dancers are trained using a Vaganova-based syllabus and modern ballet.
