Southville College of Nursing Honors a New Achiever

“High achievement always takes place in the framework of high expectations.”
– Charles Kettering

It has been three years in a row that Southville’s College of Nursing has been honoring a topnotch graduate. This year has been doubly significant because it also marked the year an entire class achieved 100 percent passing in the national nursing licensure examination.

Last August 27, 2016 a simple but special program was held to honor Jasmine C. Lazaro, RN. She did not just land in the list of the top ten Philippine Nursing Licensure Examinees but was also an exemplary student while in the BSN program. Jasmine was the quiet but committed president of Southville International Organization for Nursing (SION) who spearheaded notable student activities that brought a closer bond among all the BSN students. She was also successful at managing a few outreach programs for the residents of our adopted community CAA-C. Jasmine also graduated with a special clinical certificate, a recognition given to selected nursing students who consistently manifested noteworthy clinical performance during their entire BSN program.

The mid-morning program at the CEM Boardroom was well- attended by BSN students from all levels. A short but inspiring message was given by Dr. Marl V. Ferenal, SISC President. It was followed by Dr. Marjorie Gutierrez-Tangog, VPAR, who led the faculty and student representatives in giving their special tribute to Jasmine and the Class of 2016. Yuuki Yamamoto and Rachel Cabiles were the only other representatives of Class 2016 present, as most have left for the US. Wonderful song renditions from talented BSN II students Danielle Mercado, Nicole Goza, Edward Gonzales, Sean & Charles Estomo made the program more memorable. An exceptionally proud father, Mr. Oliver Lazaro was taking pictures of the entire event to send to Jasmine’s mom who is based in Nevada, USA.

Very evident throughout was the entire College of Nursing’s commitment to excellence, with the added challenge of achieving graduates like Jasmine who year after year raised the bar even higher. The program ended with everyone chanting the College of Nursing’s yell: 100 percent All Aboard Excellence! Be Amazing…Be Southville!
