Southville Dance Troupe Learns Korean Culture

Members of Southville Dance Troupe recently attended the Korean Cultural Dance Workshop held at Korean Wave Hall, Korean Cultural Center of the Philippines, Global City, Taguig. The event was attended by fifty selected student-dancers coming from different schools in Metro Manila. Attendees were treated to an afternoon of different Korean traditional dance styles and techniques led by Mr. KIM Yong-chul of the SUP Dance Troupe and the official resource speaker-dance lecturer representative from Korea. The workshop started out with a warm up routine; a customary procedure that all dancers complete before getting into their dance act. It was followed by a lecture-dance demonstration of a traditional Korean dance -Jangguchum, dance with janggu (hourglass-shaped drum) and ended with a special group dance hall presentation. “I have always been a fan of Korean Culture especially of their traditional dance routines and I am glad that I had an opportunity to experience this myself,” said Robert John Catequista, an incoming Information Technology student at Southville and member of the Dance Troupe.
