Understanding Multi-culturalism Key to Better World



Dressed in their national costumes with hearts filled with much enthusiasm and joy, Southville International School and Colleges (SISC) International Baccalaureate (IB) 2 students were further given the challenge to use their education to reach out to people and help build a better world during the 5th Commencement Exercises held June 5, 2010 with Mr. Allan Farlin, Principal of Faith Academy in Mindanao, giving the keynote address.
With 26 years of teaching experience, Mr. Farlin shared words of wisdom to the graduates and talked about multi-culturalism and understanding with the theme “Sharing our Humanity.”
The highlight of the event was the awarding and giving of the academic and special awards to the graduates namely Luigi Du, Darrel Then, Young Jin Lee, Jin Bin Kim, Samantha Tongo, Hye Young Kim and Youn Jeong Jeong as Bronze Awardees, Bronze, Kathrin-Luise Hahn as Silver Medalist and Sean James Borja as the graduating batch’s valedictorian and Gold Awardee.
The award for Best in Extended Essay was given to Sean Borja, Samantha Tongo, Hye Young Kim and Kathrin Hahn, with the latter also receiving the Best in Theory of Knowledge Essay Award. The Class Athlete and President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo Award for Athletics was given to Mayumi Naoe. Deserving students also received awards for Loyalty and Subject Excellence while some received Merit Awards for achieving at least 24 Predicted IB points, while complying with the set criteria
Thae Hoon An, an IB1 student, delivered a farewell message to the graduates, and Clara Han, an IB Alumni AY 2008 – 09, who is currently an Astrophysics major at the Pennsylvania State University Main Campus, delivered the Alumni Oath.
The graduating ceremony was followed by a Gala Dinner for all the graduates and their parents.
