International Baccalaureate Classes Start



Southville International School and Colleges (SISC) International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme students for Academic Year 2012 – 2013 were warmly welcomed by the IB officers and instructors spearheaded by SISC IB Coordinator, Ms. Marie Anne Mirando.

The students were given a glimpse of the two-year IB programme, governed by the Swiss-based International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), that requires IB students to take advanced classes in six subjects, become proficient in a second language, do volunteer work, and undertake original research that results in a 4,000-word essay. International Accreditors Affirm SISC as a World Class Educational Institution



Southville International School and Colleges (SISC) has made it again!

 

The Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), USA granted SISC another six years of accreditation that has to be re-validated by June 30, 2018. The 5-day re-accreditation process was conducted by the WASC Committee in SISC last February 2012.

 

The WASC accreditation committee was comprised of Chairperson Constance Oliver, Vice Chairperson William Cristelman, and members Patrick Houterman, Gwen Ueoka, William Butcher, and Andy Valadka. Southville Monarchs excel in martial arts



Gen Mark Tanno of Grade 9 – Compassion was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) by the Goshin Budo Kai, the council of Goju Ryu Karatedo blackbelts, for 2012. He was selected from among the best karatedo players from different schools for the period of November 2011 – October 2012. Gen Mark was recognized for his skills, achievement, and attitude during the awarding held last October 27, 2012. Southville Empowers Youth, Over 200 Students Sold on SOLID



It is through empowering the youth that we cause change; as the youths of today, are leaders of tomorrow. Anchored on the vision of “developing movers of society”, Southville International School and Colleges (SISC) recently held a career fair for high school students from Muntinlupa, Parañaque and Las Piñas. Southville Students Excel in Chalk Art Contest



While a chalk is usually a teacher’s instrument in writing lectures, two SISC high school students mastered using this unconventional medium in making an art design.

 

Francheska Calara of Grade 10 Conviction and Juna Lee of Grade 9 Fortitude won 1st and 2nd places respectively in the Lyra On-the-Spot Colored Chalk Menu Board Design Contest held at Sanctuario de San Antonio Parish Center, Forbes Park, Makati City. Their finished artworks which are both visually stimulating and functional bested the signage designed by other high school students.

Southville Student Celebrates Birthday through Outreach



A teen’s 13th birthday is always a special occasion. But when Tracy Lagacion, Grade 9 student of Southville International School and Colleges (SISC) celebrated hers last June 25, 2012, she made it a special occasion not just for herself, but also for the children of SISC’s Save a PO.U.Ch. (Poor Urban Child) Program. Tanno Aces International Math Tilts



Gen Mark Tanno, High School II student of Southville International School and Colleges (SISC), received a Distinction Certificate in the Fermat Contest conducted by the Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing (CEMC) of the University of Waterloo, Canada. He ranked in the top 25% of all the participants who took the test.

Tanno also received a Merit Award in the 9th Southeast Mathematical Olympiad held in Xiamen, China last July 25-29, 2012. He is the youngest among six participants chosen by the Mathematics Trainers’ Guild (MTG) Philippines to represent the country in the said tilt.

Southville Mathletes Earned Top Scores in International Math Competition



Contestants from Southville International School and Colleges (SISC) received three High Distinction, four Distinction, and seven Credit Certificates in the 2013 University of New South Wales International Competition and Assessment for Schools (ICAS) in Mathematics.

Besides the Philippines, schools from Brunei, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, India, South Africa, Hong Kong, China, and the Pacific Region also participated.

Monarch’s Streetdance Competition



Supreme Student Council & Council of Leaders organized the first dance competition in SISC history titled “Monarchs Streetdance Showdown”, showcasing the students’ talent for dancing, particularly in hiphop.

Seven groups from Southville International School and Colleges, SEED Academy and South-Seed LPDH College were pitted against each other. Third place went to the group Campus Dance Crew led by David Asprer. Second place went to an all-Psychology group Psychalysts led by Carisma Anne Flores. The SISC team of Erika Canonizado, Cylde Huang, Chae Young Jeong, and Min Jeong Kim finished in the Top 5 of the Statistical Challenge XV
hosted by UP Variates, a socioacademic student organization in the University of the Philippines Diliman School of Statistics.
