Music lovers got a first taste of what it means to sing and perform choral music from no less than Maestro Arnel de Pano in an Open Choral Workshop held at the Southville International Schools and Colleges on January 24.

The workshop, titled “I Love Music,” had Maestro Arnel teaching the basic elements of the art to college students. Topics covered were rhythm, melody, tempo, the different musical styles and the students were encouraged to participate by singing even as they were taught how to prepare their vocal instruments. Abby Arevalo, a Basic Education student of Southville International School and Colleges triumphed in the recent 2013 Pondok Indah Junior Golf Championship in Jakarta Indonesia. Arevalo won second place via courtback over Thailand’s Rojanapeansatith. In celebration of the National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week, Southville Education Students showcased knowledge of their sign language skills as they interpreted the Philippine National Anthem and prayer during the opening ceremony of Persons and Disabilities Family Day.

“It is amazing to see fellow education students doing sign language. Language is not a barrier at all. It makes me look forward to my sign language class in the future,” says Joie Balmes, a sophomore student.
