BEED SPED: Course Overview

The course provides students with a general training in education and developmental psychology, sociology and linguistics applied to education, especially to students with special learning needs.

This course includes the Philosophy, Foundations, and Principles of Education, Curricular Content Development, Development of Instructional Materials, Teaching Strategies and Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI)

Program Description and General Objectives

Bachelor in Elementary Education (BEEd) is structured to meet the needs of professional teachers for elementary schools and special education programs in the Philippines
The BEEd aims to develop elementary school teachers who are either (a) generalists who can teach across the different learning areas in grade school, (b) special education teachers, or pre-school teachers.

The Bachelor of Elementary Education aims to:

  • equip the students with skills and knowledge and positive values and attitudes to enable them to meet the demands of the millennium
  • prepare top teachers who can provide leadership and commitment to service in their respective communities and to the nation as a whole
  • develop individuals who search for new knowledge and its application to the Philippine educational system.

The SISC College of Education Vision Mission

All teacher education program aims to assist future educators to develop and become integrated persons and professionals. This involves equipping the future teachers with pedagogical knowledge about learners and the teaching-learning process, various educational skills and professional abilities and aptitude that will facilitate the process of becoming an effective teacher.

  • Possess interpersonal skills and collaborative attitude in dealing with parents of learners with special needs as well as with the school personnel and people in the school community.

Professional competence and research orientation in the practice of the profession considering the international standards.

  • Possess open-mindedness to and interest in innovations in education based on research and employs them as appropriate; initiates innovation to improve instruction.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in the use of teaching strategies and approaches for learners with special needs given diverse contexts.
  • Competently plan to make learning meaningful and purposeful for learners with special needs.
  • Uphold ethical standards in the exercise of the profession.
