Southville Monarchs Win at International Math-Science Competition

Southville Students brought home medals from the 15th International Mathematics and Science Olympiad for Primary School Students (IMSO) held last Sept. 28 to Oct. 4 in Zhejiang, China. Ervin Joshua Bautista of Gr. 6 – Perseverance won the Philippines’ lone gold medal in Science while Kristner Sheyn Saludo of Gr. 5 – Loyalty scored a silver medal also in Science.

With the theme “Smart, Skilled, and Creative in a Joyful Competition for Excellence,” the event drew almost 400 contestants from twenty-one countries and regions including Bulgaria, South Korea, South Africa, Taiwan, Thailand and host China. The contestants were asked theoretical and experimental questions in science covering science skills & methodology, general environmental issues, human anatomy & functions, current technological developments, among others.
