College of Education recently hosted SPED Olympics 2013.
Formally opened by the Dean of Education, Dr. Virginia O.Caneo, the event encouraged children with special needs to participate in sports. It aimed to enhance the self-esteem of its participants and develop friendships among them. Another purpose of the said activity was to promote social capability which is of utmost importance to children who are mentally challenged to improve their social functioning.
Students from Alabang Elementary School SPED Center as well as “Here we Grow School” were invited to join the different games prepared by the EDUC students. The games were “planting straw”, “ball relay”, “Maria went to town” and “Shoot that ball”.
Meanwhile, volunteers from the College of Nursing and Psychology helped out and were paired with each student from Alabang SPED Center. They were tasked to assist, to guide and to cheer the kids while they join in the different games. The kids with the most number of points were awarded accordingly.
