BS Psychology Alumna Shines at 2019 World Championship of Performing Arts (WCOPA)

BS Psychology alumna, Kristine Burgos bagged several awards at the 2019 World Championship of Performing Arts (WCOPA). Kristine aced several singing categories such as WORLD (gold), LATIN (silver), R&B/JAZZ/SOUL (silver), GOSPEL (bronze), and ROCK (bronze). Kristine auditioned in Batangas City the moment she found out about WCOPA. Eager to represent the Philippines, Kristine juggled her competition and board exam review schedules. As a psychology practitioner, Kristine shared, “ It is important to have your inner peace as an individual and it is important to be surrounded with people who encourage you to do your best.. For me, it was really hard to handle my singing competition and my board exam review because the pressure was too much to handle to the point that i want to give up; so it is important to have the growth mindset and it is important to pray as well!” Kristne embodies Southville’s teachings of 5Cs – Competence, Character, Collaboration, Creativity, and Commitment to Achieve wherever her academic and singing venture takes her. Among these, it’s Competence and Commitment to Achieve which worked for her the most. Kristine is currently preparing for the upcoming Psychometrician Licensure Exam. She also plans to review for NMAT and proceed to medical school. Kristine was the former Vice President (External) for the Psychology Society, a Dean’s List Awardee, and Top Psychology Student.

“My WCOPA journey is a very memorable experience for me.. Being able to represent the country and compete against 72 other countries was such an overwhelming feeling for me especially at the back of my head I was worrying about my review classes and was also worrying about my performance since I got sick the moment I got to the USA.. A lesson that left a mark from my WCOPA journey is that we should always be humble, thankful and respectful.. Appreciate each individual’s talents and respect their perspectives in life.”
