Three schools of Southville Global Education Network (SGEN) have been named 2026 State and National School of Character by Character.org, a U.S.-based leader and advocate for character development in schools. Southville International School and Colleges, Stonyhurst Southville International School – Batangas, and Stonyhurst Southville International School – Malarayat received the highest honor bestowed by the organization, recognizing their exemplary commitment to fostering character development and equipping students with the values needed to become responsible and engaged citizens of their communities.
Each year, Character.org honors schools worldwide that demonstrate excellence in character education based on its 11 Principles Framework for Schools. This framework highlights key indicators such as cultivating a caring school community where every individual feels a sense of belonging, providing meaningful opportunities for students to practice and reflect on their character strengths, and actively engaging families and communities as partners in the character-building process.
To earn this distinction, the SGEN schools underwent a comprehensive and rigorous evaluation, including an in-depth review and a virtual site visit conducted by a team of trained evaluators. The school presented strong evidence of its implementation of character education best practices, including signature programs such as the EQ/ACT (Emotional Quotient/Achievers Core Training) and TOWPEP (Tier One Well-Being and Personal Effectiveness Program). These initiatives have demonstrated a positive impact on academic performance, student behavior, and overall school climate.
“Schools of Character show us what is possible when a school community commits to intentionally building a culture where students learn not only academic skills, but also empathy, curiosity, civic responsibility, and perseverance,” said Nicole Diehl, Executive Director of Schools of Character. “This recognition reflects the thoughtful and sustained work SGEN has invested in creating school environments where students feel cared for, supported, and inspired to grow.”
