Southville Global Education Network Pioneers AI-Ready Research with Launch of New International Standards Guidebook

“We are not merely teaching our students to write papers; we are empowering them to become the architects of a better world,” declared Dr. Jocelyn P. Tizon, Southville President, during the official launch of the first SGEN International Research Standards Guidebook. The event formalized a new era of academic inquiry, successfully bridging traditional scholarly rigor with the rapidly evolving demands of a digital-first global landscape.

Research defines how institutions innovate, respond, and create impact. At Southville Global Education Network (SGEN), research is not only about generating knowledge—it is about transforming communities and shaping the future. Central to this mission was the authorship of the guidebook by esteemed SGEN research leaders Dr. Melva Diamante, Dr. Ruel Cajili, and Dr. Rolly Donato. Drawing from their extensive expertise, these officers developed the research manual to serve as a definitive blueprint for international benchmarking, ensuring that the research produced by students and faculty meets the most stringent global standards.

The launch was headlined by a powerful keynote address from Dr. Jovelle Fernandez, a renowned Filipino international medical scientist based in the United States. As a distinguished guest and close friend of the network, Dr. Fernandez provided the highlight of the event, offering her expert insights on how standardized research excellence elevates Filipino scholars within the global scientific community.
The program further explored the intersection of technology and scholarship through a series of expert presentations. SGEN CTO/CFO Rex Wallen Tan discussed the “Future of Research in an AI World,” explaining how the guidebook prepares researchers to utilize artificial intelligence in ethical, high-impact data gathering. This vision of tech-driven integrity was complemented by Dr. Giovanni De Jesus Milanez, who expounded on the necessity of local and international publication in biomedical science, and Dr. Rex Bacarra, who shared his perspectives on maintaining academic rigor in a modern, globalized context.
Spearheaded by the Southville NEXUS Research Center (SNRC), the initiative was supported by the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities (PACU). The launch was attended by university chancellors and research directors from Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) Manila, Laguna, and Batangas, Universidad De Manila, the United Nations Association of the Philippines (UNAP), Immaculate Heart of Mary College – Parañaque, PATTS College of Aeronautics, and representatives from the office of Education Councilor Alelee Aguilar-Andanar.

The official unveiling was led by Chief Executive Officer and Mentor (CEM) Dr. Gene Ledesma-Laurel and Dr. Tizon. This milestone is particularly timely as Southville continues to gain global recognition for its commitment to innovation. The institution was recently named part of the World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI) 2026, placing within the Top 1% (Global Top 500) of innovative universities worldwide. Even more inspiring, Southville was recognized among the Top 100 Global Schools in Interdisciplinary, Convergent, and Integrated Research, ranking Top 70 globally.

Reflecting on these achievements, Dr. Laurel shared a stirring vision for the network’s future: Our vision for Southville is to serve as a catalyst for actionable solutions, where rigorous academic inquiry directly addresses pressing societal needs. As we look to the future, our goal is to expand our footprint in global innovation. We are committed to ensuring that every Southville researcher is equipped to tackle complex human challenges, combining cutting-edge technical proficiency with a deep understanding of human impact. This International Research Standards Guidebook is a foundational tool in our mission to become a premier research hub—one that empowers the next generation to move beyond absorbing existing knowledge to actively driving global progress.”

By institutionalizing these advanced frameworks, SGEN is equipping researchers with the empirical skills necessary to translate data into tangible, real-world solutions. Today’s launch is more than the unveiling of a text; it is a decisive step toward elevating research integrity, fostering strategic collaboration, and advancing research standards both locally and on the global stage.
